Get the drums out its pop up Africa market at Spitalfield

"Bank Holiday Monday 26th August 2013Rounding up the Spitalfields Estate summer programme, will be Africa at Spitalfields- the popular one day market event with a difference".

If  Project Manager Jessica Laditan and Banking Operations Analyst Victoria Akagwu aka Africa enthusiasts and lovers of the arts had an idea that a holiday to Nigeria would give birth to something so inspiring, they would have gone maybe one year earlier. But what this duo needed was just a touch on the soil of Nigeria where the fast growing fashion, beauty and arts industry is booming for their business sense to switch on. Both born in Africa but raised in London the market brings to life a taste of their African origins to the streets of London which they know and love.

More than just a conventional market day, Africa at Spitalfields is an interactive shopping experience; bringing together the communities in London to celebrate Africa. Catering to all, visitors will be entertained by traditional hot-stepping African dancers, the beats of Djembe drummers, live acoustic music, crafts and traditional story-telling.  There'll be hair braiding and some face painting for the kids –or the 'big kids' among us.
Pop up Africa’ first came to life at Spitalfields in May 2013, the event saw visitors transported into a typical African market. On entry visitors were welcomed by the bold smells of an African BBQ with an array of spices engulfing the market while African dancers and drummers wowed the crowd with envious dancing to the beat of the music.
If you missed the first one, here’s your chance to catch the fun and eclectic vibes on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August as Spitalfields Market is transformed into a unique shopping experience, celebrating the vibrant and very distinctive African culture, showcasing the talents from Africa and the Diaspora.
Held at one of the UK’s world famous markets, there will be an array of stalls selling anything from one-off clothing, handmade crafts, interiors, books and delicious rustic African Street food,
